John Tookey at the Mall GalleryJohn had a picture accepted at the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours exhibition at the Mall Gallery. 'The Lister Sisters'at Wanstead Library, 14-28 JuneWanstead Library will be holding an exhibition which will include some rarely seen water colour paintings by Edith Lister (1858-1950) who was made an honorary EAC member for the last few years of her life. Walter Spradbery described her work as "spontaneous, limpid and beautiful". The exhibition will be about the three talented Lister sisters who lived in Leytonstone and were nieces of Lord Lister.
Edith bequeathed a number of watercolours to the EAC and they are stored at the library, where a few are occasionally displayed. If anyone has any memories or paintings connected with Edith Lister which would make an interesting addition to the exhibition, please contact Sandy Connor, who will be assembling material for a display case.

Society for Women ArtistsValma Cheffins has had three pictures accepted and Belinda Tong has had four pictures accepted for the Society for Women Artists Exhibition at the Mall Gallery. The exhibition runs from 1st July to the 10th July, closing at 1 pm on the final day. Wanstead Art TrailThe first Wanstead Art Trail is being launched in September, and all members of the Essex Art Club are eligible to take part. Although many club members live outside the area, the Wanstead-based group is considered very much part of the local art scene. But there's not much time to lose – applications close on May 21, although work doesn't have to be ready until late this summer. This community event has been started by volunteers to encourage artists, and is supported by the Wanstead Society to help boost the high street. It will feature artists from outstanding professionals to enthusiastic amateurs and include photographers, sculptors, mosaic and stained-glass artists. EAC members who would like to show something different from their usual artwork (eg perhaps art ceramics or mixed-media pieces) are welcome to do so, depending on finding suitable space. Varied work will make the trail more exciting, and whatever the medium, accomplished work will stand out. Participants will have to approach participating shopkeepers/businesses themselves at a later stage, and can put prices on their own art or just offer work for display. Unfortunately, craftwork cannot be accepted for this event. The trail is being launched on Sunday September 19, the day of the Wanstead Festival and the farmers' market. It runs until the end of the following Sunday, 26th. To date, more than 40 local shops and businesses plus Wanstead House community centre have agreed to display artists' work, and the event will involve local walks and an exhibition by schoolchildren in Wanstead Library. This event will also help publicise local art groups and classes, and should enable artists to meet other like-minded individuals. We hope the result will be a more vibrant artistic community, a livelier high street and a network that will lead to further events. Artists need places to show and sell their work. For further information or to apply please contact volunteer organiser Donna Mizzi at donnamizzi@btinternet.com or 0208 989 9881. Email Address
